2019 SLAIGHT NEW VENTURE COMPETITION

For eighteen years, the Slaight Family Foundation has fostered student entrepreneurship by awarding two $25,000 prizes of startup seed money to two TRSM students. Hosted by StartMeUp, the NVC culminates with pitch presentations by six competition finalists at the final competition event on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.

CRITERIA

  1. ONLY individuals can enter the competition, one per each new venture proposal submission.

  2. Individual competition entrants must be either current or recently graduated (within 12 months of convocation) TRSM full time undergraduate and graduate students.

  3. The new venture must be less than 18 months old.

  4. The new venture has to be more than just an idea; should have begun customer development, be working on an MVP/prototype, etc.

  5. If the new venture is selected for stage two as one of the six finalists, the presentation team can include no more than two presenters, one of which must be the individual who entered the competition.

  6. Individuals who enter the competition must be entitled to at least half the new venture equity (e.g., 50% or more)

  7. ONLY one submission per new venture.

TIMELINE

NEW VENTURE PROPOSAL SUBMISSION
Deadline: February 19th, 2018 @ 11:59PM

Six finalists will be selected by TRSM Entrepreneurship & Strategy professors.

PITCH WORKSHOPS
March 1 - 8, 2019

Compulsory participation in pitch preparation workshops with TRSM and industry experts.

FINAL PRESENTATION March 19, 2019

Six finalists will present a 5-minute New Venture pitch to a judging panel of Ryerson University professors and industry professionals and a general audience at an open invitation event.
